
Kent County Chief Probate Court
Judge Avery D. Rose took the bench in 2023 and has served as Chief Judge since January 1, 2025. Raised in Coldwater, Michigan, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Michigan State University, a JD from Wayne State University Law School, and an MLIS from Wayne State University.

He previously worked as a law clerk at the 48th Circuit Court in Allegan County. Subsequently, he served as the Probate Register in Allegan County and, later, in Kent County, where he oversaw court administration and the Guardianship Program. He has presented for the Michigan Judicial Institute (MJI), the Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE), the Michigan Probate Judges Association (MPJA), the Grand Rapids Bar Association (GRBA), and other community organizations. Judge Rose currently serves on the Executive Board of the MPJA.
